MURITAI'S ROUGH TRIP.
SUCCESSION OF HEAVY GALES. , i Throughout the ( whole of the voyage of the Tyser Line's steamer Muritai, which arrived at Auckland last evening from London, via Melbourne and Sydney, the big vessel was beset by boisterous weather. The first of the stormy weather was met with in the English Channel on March 20, when heavy* south-westerly and. southerly gales were encountered. These prevailed with terrific force until the Bay of Biscay was cleared. Huge seas broke on board on more than one occasion, and fittings and a quantity of deck cargo were washed away. The Muritai passed the Cape of Good Hope on April 11. and encountered heavy fogs, which lasted for several days, considerably hampering the speed of the vessel. Several more heavy south-west gales were encountered, followed by more fogs, but notwithstanding these troubles, the Muritai arrived at Melbourne on the thirty-ninth day out, completing an excel-1 lent run. On the voyage from Sydney to ' Auckland she met with strong north-west winds and rain Squalls for most of <;■. the ■''• time, : the passage from. ■ Sydney being accomplished in 4 days 2£ hours. :;V f! 3
