The Point CheValier Road Board has in contemplation an important scheme for the ' widening of Great North Road. Yesterday the members of the board interviewed the Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr), arid asked for the assistance of the City Council on behalf of the residents of Avondale and Point Chevalier in connection with the proposed scheme. ! '" Recognising the growing importance of Great North Road, which was fast becoming . one of the great arteries of traffic from the city northward, the Road Board, it was stated, desired to widen and straighten the road where it runs through the City Council's property near the old Stone Jug "and the Western Springs. In this vicinity there were a number of bends in the road, and ; the straighteningput of the thoroughfare would considerably shorten the distance to bo traversed. Moreover, -it was pointed out by the deputation that ', the ' Point • : Chevalier Road Board had in view the widening of the road not only at the point mentioned, but also along its further course to the Point Chevalier district. : ~\ ; 4 The, Mayor informed the deputation that he would, in company with the city engineer, visit the locality, and then go into the matter at a further interview to be held on Friday week in the Town Hall. Mr. Parr considers the scheme proposed by the board would prove an excellent piece of town-planning for the "district,' and; after getting full details he proposes to ask the, Works Committee of the City Council to •go into the ' whole matter, 'v
