THE STRAWBERRY SEASON.
The lateness of the strawberry season this year has robbed growers of twothirds of their crops., for generally the berries come in during October, while in no case is there a market worthy of consideration after January. Christinas, indeed, marks the end of the season for average growers, no matter whether the season be early or late. Strawberries now coming forward are in fair supply, the number of cases sent to Wellington last week being slightly greater than usual. Wholesale prices obtainable in Wellington range from lid to Is 3d. Locally, the supply is by no means a large one in relation to the demand. Prices realised recently on the local wholesales market run from 8d to 10£ d, while retail prices in Auckland vary from lOd to la 3d per box. Given a few days of hot, dry weather, the supply would materially increase, though it is doubtful whether with the near advent of Christmas, the increased supply would greatly influence prices. The size of the berries coming to hand, though not equal to the standard of more favourable years, leaves little to be desired.
