RAILWAY TO TAUPO. ' THE HANDLING OF MANURES*. The council of the Auckland Chamber . of Commerce met yesterday. ; Presents f Messrs'. G. Elliot (in the chair), S. Nathan, Graves Aickin, A. Burt, L. J. Bag-nail* : T. Peaoooke, John Reid, E. , Anderson, E. C. Browne, G. Beattie, Dr. McDowell,, and Captain. Colbeck. . v The Public Works Department wrote, stating that the representations made by the Chamber with reference to the extent sion of the Taupo Totara Timber Coji'h ; pany's railway would receive tire caiefnf j consideration •of the Government. The i letter was received. j ■ The Wellington Chamber of Commerce wrote forwarding a copy of resolutions carried at a. conference of representatives of manure manufacturers and importers, and of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, When the matter of the packing and •• handling of manures had been Considered. The resolutions urged that all importations of superphosphates and basic slag in baga should be in packages of not more than 1401b gross weight, and that each bag should have two lugs; that action should be taken to prevent the use of hooks in, handling manures, and that the shipping companies should bo.asked to give effect to the resolutions. The letter was re-: ceived and the resolutions were endorsed. The Auckland-Manukau-Waikato Canal League wrote urging the Chamber to use ik; best, endeavours to bring this canal scheme to an early and successful issue.' The chairman said that the Harbour Hoard had had the matter in hand foe some time. The letter was received, and it was decided to reply that the CharnlwT was not disposed to take any, action at present.
