WORKERS AT WAIHI.

A STEADY INCREASE. ! MORE PROSECUTIONS PENDING. fr.v, Tr.r.KGHAru.own correspondent.] W.Miir, Monday. Eleven morn men commenced -work for the mining companies this morning, five of whom signed on with the Waihi Gold Mining Company, wliilo six were given employment by the Grand Junction Company. The five men taken on by the Waihi Company were sent underground, four of the number being practical miners. Of j these three came from mining camps in other parts of the world, the fourth being j a Waihi man. . The six men engaged by j the Grand Junction Company include three labourers, two mechanics, and. one miner, who was working in Waihi prior to the strike. The men are working on the surface, ponding the resumption of mining operations, which will probably be commenced in a day or two. In addition to the miners enrolled a fow days ago (on surface work for the time being) four experienced Waihi underground workers informed the management today that they i intended making a start on Tuesday morn- j '"*>*.' . * Since (ho mining companies resumed j work on October 2, between 150 and I<io ' men have been engaged at Waihi and Waikino, the number mentioned being exclusive of salaried officials, shift bosses, tally clerks, and others retained in the service from the time the strike was declared. Of the new men taken on. 68 are employed underground by the Waihi Gold Mining Company. As usual, the strikers and the womenfolk demonstrated against the workers as they went on and came off work to-day. The police have taken the names of 'a number of strikers who, still persist in boo j ing and calling the workers "scabs." It! is expected that a further batch will bo ' brought before Mr. F.\ V. Frazer at the I Police Court to-morrow. j.
