WATER SUPPLY FOR A HOME
VICAR AND EOAD BOARD. At a meeting of the Otalmhu Ratepayers' Association on Friday evening. Air. Saunders (secretary) read a letter from the Rev. 11. Mason, vicar of Otahuhu, in which lie denied over Laving asked lor a free- water .supply for St. Mary's Home. What ho desired v.-as that the institution should bo charged for water at the same rate as a private residence, and he thought that £7 a year would be a fair charge. He (Mr. Mason) had ascertained that the. City Council only charged half-scale to charitable institutions. Ho asKed the. association to endeavour to prevent the borough earning a reputation for ingratitude. Mr. Salt, a member of the Road Board, said he had never stated that Mr. Mason wanted free water for St. Mary's Home. He (Mr. Salt) had all along desired that the Home should have the same treatment . as any other charitable institution. Mr. Hebden : But the Si. Mary's Home "has had no better treatment than a bacon factory. The general feeling appeared to be that. the vicar's request was a very reasonable one, and a resolution supporting his application to the Board was adopted.
