OTAHUHU RATEPAYERS.
A wkettko of the Otahuhu Ratepayers' Association was held on Friday evening, Mr. J. Wilson presiding. A letter was re.ad from Mr. James Atkinson stating that tho condition of his health would not allow of him offering himself as a candidate for the Borough Council. Hie letter was received with regret, and a resolution thanking Mr. Atkinson for his valuable; public services and making him an honorary member of the association was adopted unanimously. Mr. Hebdon called attention to the state of somo of the roads and footpaths, which were in a very bad condition. lie had been obliged to hire a conveyance to bring a man to his work and take him home. Other speakers made similar complaints. Mr Salt said that the Board had ordered scoria, to be put. down in tho places complained of. Mr. J. Cansaid there was no difficulty in obtaining scoria, and he was much .surprised that the work had not been done. A resolution was adopted to the effect that the Road Hoard's attention be called to the matter. Objection was taken to the decision of the Head Board that the Borough Council election should take place on a Wednesday. It was resolved that a. deputation wait upon Mr. S. J. ilarbntt, chairman of the Board, and ask that tho day of election bo changed to Saturday, otherwise many working-men voters who worked in Auckland would bo unable to record their .votes. Messrs. Hay ward and McMullen, who luwl been selected by the association as two of its candidates for the approaching election, expressed a wish to withdraw their candidature. They were asked to reconsider their decjson and consented to do .so.
