POLICE COURT NEWS.

A charge of stealing, on June, 28 last, a gold bangle valued at £4 10s, the property of Marie Dean, was preferred against Samuel Finch, at the Police Court yesterday. The it will be remembered, was remanded early in the week, Mr. Grundy, who appeared on his behalf, being desirous of having him committed to Roto Ron. Island. The magistrate, however, was unable to adopt such a. course, and the accused was sentenced to two years' reformatory treatment.

Three first offenders for drunkenness were fined 5s each, while another was ordered to forfeit his £1 bail. A sailor off H.M.S. Drake was convicted and handed over to the ship's officers for punishment. A second offender, John Fox, was convicted and fined 10s. Martin Le Strange, charged with drunkenness and a breach of his prohibition order, was fined £3 or 14 days' imprisonment. On a charge of drunkenness and refusing to quit the Royal Hotel, when ordered to do so, Charles Augustus Fitzpatrick was fined £2, with costs 3s. A young man, Jack Gaunt, charged with being an idle and disorderly person, inasmuch as he solicited alms in Victoriastreet, was sentenced to three months' hard labour.
