OCCIDENTAL, v
TAIRUA.
WATCHMAN.
In a late report, the manager of the Occidental mine, Thames, states that the new engine it? working well, and the mullock that had accumulated during tho stoppage has now been cleared away. . A few more pounds of picked stone has been secured from tho second stope, and there is now 821b on hand. The reef in the south face is splitting into several small branches, but from appearances the manager considers that they should come together again further "ahead.
The Punou drive in the Tairua mines was extended 6ft, further during the week. The country still looks well, but the reef is poor. At present, what is practically a blank in the reef overhead is being passed through, and little improvement can be expected for a week or two. As the improvement in values in, the east branch of the west reef has not been, maintained work at this face has been suspended, and operations have been commenced on the west branch. The reef is small where rising has been started, but it. has a good appearance and at a height of sft gives fairly good values. The northcast drive was advanced a further distance of sft, but as nothing of any value has been discovered, work here will be stopped, and all attention will bo given to the Punon and west reefs.
Shares am the Watchman Gold Mining Company to the number of 500, which were forfeited for non-payment of the last call, were sold yesterday at Mr. R. C. Carr's auction mart at 9d each.
