TELEPHONES IN THE NORTH.
FROM EAST TO WEST. •Ik spite of delay by bad weather and the consequent difficulties of transporting material, satisfactory progress is being made with the improvement of telephone facilities in the North Auckland district. The principal undertaking is the connection of Whangarei and Dargaville by a metallic circuit line, which will also be available* for telegraphic purposes. This
will be a marked improvement* on * the existing arangemetita, dv which itr is necessary for messages between the two centres to be transmitted through Auckland. ' By the end of next week the line will •be completed from Tangiteroria to Maungatapere. Within two or three weeks temporary arrangements will be completed, giving telephone communication between Whangarei and Dargaville. This will be effected by connecting" the metallic circuit lines from Dargaville to Tangowahine and from Whangarei to Tangiteroria by means of the existing single lino between Tangiteroria 1 and Tangowahme. : A telephone exchange is to be opened a* Ohaeawai in a few days. Exchanges have been asked for' at Kaikohe and Kaihu.
