LAWN TENNIS.
NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. ' [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WEI.MNGTON, Thursday. The Council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association met to-night. A letter was received from the Lawn Tennis Association. London, stating that with .regard to the proposal that Mr. Wallia Myers should take a team to Australia, it had been decided to withhold its sanction from any privately-organised team. Proposals had been made to France and the United States that challengers for the Davis cup should play preliminary ties in Australia, but, there' did not seem to be much likelihood of this being arranged. Should the preliminary ties be got through, every effort. - would be made to send a representative team out to Australia for the challenge tie. In the event of the English team being defeated in the preliminary ties, the English Association would wish, if possible, to arrange for a visit of a representative official team to play a series of matches;, should an invitation be -received from the Australasian Association. Negotiations were now in progress, and when they were in a more forward state the English Association would bo pleased to go further into the question of a possible extension of the tour to New Zealand. It was reported that £620 was taken at the Davis cup contests at Christchurch. Half this goes to America, r»nd the remainder to Australasia. The net profit to tho Australasian Association was £62. ■
