Tho manager of tho New Waitaia mine (Kuaotunu) reports that tho, surface landslip is cleared up to tho mouth of tho low level. Ho expects by next week to havo everything in full working order, including the completion of tho hopper and tramway. Tho weekly report from tho manager of the Tairtia Mines, Tairua, states that the north-east level was extended to a distance of 26ft. Tho appearance of the country was favourable for' gold. A leader which was cut gives good prospects, but is too small to bo of any importance, further than showing that the country 13 gold-bearing.
The drive at the Tramway level in tho Golden Cross mine, Waitekauri, has been advanced a further 10ft, the reef hero being more solid and the walls good. The manager states that he hopes to get good values shortly. Tho crosscut west has also been advanced 10ft. and is still in good country. Work during tho next week or two will be confined to breaking out ore at the outcrop section of the olden Cross reef for the battery.
The manager of the Union Hauraki mine, Coromandel, reports that tho drive north on tho cross reef has now been advanced a total of 41ft. The reef averages 12in, and looks well for carrying gold. The country rock is also of a favourable nature. The quartz in tho end, mentioned in last report, proved to bo a reef running at right angles to the one being driven on. It has the appearance of being a true fissure vein. Driving is being continued on the cross 1 reef in the expectation of good results.
In tho Otama section of the Handsworth mine (Kuaotunu) tho second stopo shows a well-defined lead, which gives a little gold in tho dish. The manager reports that tho third etopo has been very good during tho week. Although only a few pounds of specimen stone wero selected, the general dirt has been very good, if not rich enough to class as picked stone. There is a good deal of cinnabar present. Tho fourth stope is being beaten north and south, and is showing gold at the north end, with every appearance of improvement south.
