HENDERSON NEWS.

[FROM our own

At a recent meeting of tip Waiternata County Council, the question of allocating £20,000 (being the first instalment of the £80,000 loan) advanced by the Government, was discussed, and the proportion voted for the Waipareira riding is £3000. The county engineer (Mr. Jackson) has been authorised to call tenders for the carting of about 2000 yds of metal from the Henderson Valley Creek; also for the supply of a stone-crusher. The £200 granted by the Government, subject to a subsidy from the riding, is being expended on the Valley Road, the necessary subsidy baing met by the ratepayers in the vicinity. The object in view is to form a good road to the top of the Waitakere Ranges, suitable for motor traffic, this route being greatly used by tourists.

In addition to Woodward's farm being subdivided into small holdings of 15 to 50 acres for closer settlement, Mr. Bowron is now having his property surveyed for that purpose. Both these properties are situated in Henderson Valley.

The construction of the new Henderson Pound bridge, to be built of concrete, has been commenced. Largo quantities of fruit are being consigned from the district. _ About 15 tons are railed daily, in addition to a certain amount cartecl direct to the city by growers.
