PACIFIC CABLE SERVICE.

[SX TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, ' Wednesday. Consideration' by tho Legislative Council of the Pacific Cable Company's proposal to lay a new cable between Sydney and Auckland was postponed this afternoon by the operation of a Standing Order. On Tuesday afternoon the Attorney-General consented, at tho Hon. H. F. Wigram's request, to postpone his motion that the Council should approve of the scheme until the following day, to enable th© Dunedin Chamber of Commerce to make representations on the matter. The Council was occupied with other business until after four p.m., and the motion had then to be passed over, so that the orders of the day could be proceeded with.
