PIANOFORTE TECHNIQUE.
Teachers and students of the piano, and especially those who have interested themselves in what is now widely known as " Matthay!s System," - v/ill welcome the publication of his latest work on the subject (Longmans, Green and Co., London). It is only a little book, but it contains much valuable information. The author,' Mr. Tobias Matthay, is ?, Fellow and Professor of 1 the Royal Academy of Music. His work as a teacher has placed him. in' the first., rank; indeed, it is claimed by many ,of his admirers that he,' more than any other, living instructor, of v the pianoforte, has brought English-born' performers, on the instrument up to an equality with .those!.; hailing from the Continent. This latest brochure is entitled " Some Commentaries on the Teaching of Pianofojte Technique," and is a supplement to and amplification of Matthay's larger works, " The Art of Touch" and "First Principles," which were published in 1903, and which are now regarded by many as authoritative on the subject.
