TO-DAY'S MATCHES.
The lacrosse championship competition will bo continued this afternoon, when Auckland will moot Ponsonby at the Domain, and Grafton will play West End at Victoria Park.
Tho completion of the first round shows Auckland and Ponsonby in the load, with two wins each, with Grafton and West End closo up with one win. ]f Auckland boats Ponsonby this afternoon, as they will probably do, they will open tho second round with an advantage-! ous lead. The Grafton team is a. well-trained' body and should manage to defeat' West. End to-day.
All matches arc suspended on June 3. Auckland will send a team South to play Wellington on June 22, and Chmtclmrch o» tho 24th. In order to give the team ampin opportunity to practise, the sectors will meet this, evening, and elect a side to ga into immediate training. Mr. J. £1. Dickson will act. as manager of the team.' The Grafton team surpassed themselves in Saturday's contest with Auckland. Starting tho second half with a deficit of three goals they had reduced it at the end of I fc© third quarter to one goal. In the final quarter they literally ran the reds "off their legs," and won by a margin of two goals—a win full of merit. P. Stewart had another day in: ho was stopping all manner of shots. Philson and Halfett, were the pick of a good attack. Stewart; and Carpenter were (lie head of a stubborn defence.
In lien of Jho championship marches on June 3, which have been suspended for that date, there will bo an A and 13 rep. trial match played.
