A HARBOUR COLLISION.
FERRY BOAT AND LINER,
[BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington,. Friday. A mishap occurred in the harbour at 7.30 o'clock this morning off Point Hals well, when the ferry steamer .Admiral collided with the big Tyser liner Niwaru, under the command of Captain Compton. The Niwaru was proceeding to Timaru, and the ferry .steamer, which' was on her way to Day's Bay. was running parallel to her on the inside course. . When off.the point the Admiral, in order to shape her coursa for the bay, tried to get clear of the bigger vessel, and in doing so struck the XiwJiru about amidships on Iter starboard side. "Neither vessel was much damaged.
The collision. according io the captain of Ihe liner, was little more than :i "graze." At the point where she struck, tie Niwaru's plates were, it i' said, slightly dented. The Admiral put "back to port, and from a cursory examination, it was found that her injuries weiO apparently nothing more than a flattening of her false stem. It was the bow of the vessel that stunk the Niwaiu.
