TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB'S WINTER

MEETING.

SECOND DAY'S RACING.

UNDER most perfect weather conditions the Takapuna Jockey Club concluded their winter carnival at Dovonport yesterday. The attendance was very large for an off day, and. added to that of Saturday, constitutes a record for the winter at Takapuna. Mr. llobt. Wynyard again managed the gatherins successfully, everything passing off pleasantly. The judge's box was capably filled by Mr. W. J. Ralph, while Mr. O'Connor despatched the fields satisfactorily, with the exception of the Maiden Hurdles, in which, having no barrier, a tedious delay was experienced in getting the horses away. During the day two alleged " tote" bettors were arraigned, but the evidence not being conclusive they were let go. C. Brown was to have ridden Miscre divert in the Pupuke Handicap, but rode Lloyds instead, Miscre Ouvert having to be withdrawn for want of a rider. The trainer of the latter entered a complaint, and Brown was fined £2 by the stewards. Business on the totalisators eclipsed the returns of Saturday, the sum of £12,841 10s being invested, compared with £6509 10s on the second day of last year, and making £25.039 for the meeting, an increase of £10,928 over 1910. when £910 was received in bookmakers' fees. The following is a comparison of the returns for the past three years: —
