ART EXHIBITION.
PUBLIC OPENING TO-MORROW, The Auckland Society of Arts Exhibition will be opened to the public to-morrow morning. 'this evening the formal opening will be effected by the holding of V conversazione at the gallery, at which the members of the society and their friends will be present. His Excellency, the Governor will visit the exhibition this morning for a private view of the works exhibited. The show of pictures, which is now all ready for view," is the best that the society has yet held, comprising a greater number of pictures and works generally of greater merit than before. A new system has been adopted in hanging the works. This work was delegated solely to Mr. H. Wallace, instead of being entrusted to two or three persons, with the result that a very harmonious tout ensemble has been produced. The chief feature of the arrangement of the pictures is that pictures of striking similarity in key have been kept together, ioj instance, the works at the end of the gallery furthest from the entrance doors are all" low in key. and are remarkably comfortable company for each oilier. I™" port ant pictures'placed elsewhere on the walls have been grouped with other paintings graduated in tone, and there is an almost entire absence of .lashing effects. Figure work is stronger on the whole this year than last, and a very attracts section of the exhibition is a large collection of water-colour?, many of them very good. i The collection includes a number 01 paint from artists, both of the Dominion and elsewhere, who r.re already, well-known here.
