Melbourne, May 24. Mr. W. M. Hughes -(Acting-Federal Prime Minister}, discussing Mr. Holman'i suggestion regarding the Vancouver serf vice, declared that it was infinitely pre; ferable for tho Commonwealth to do thesq things. There were no insuperable difkN culties in the way of arranging such a sen vice as Mr. Holman desired to see, and upon the satisfactory settlement of _ Ausi tralian-Canadian reciprocity a shipping scheme would follow naturally. Xhq only obstacle to a Commonwealth subsidy to a service touching at New Zealand would then be removed.
