OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
A HOMESTEAD DESTROYED.
[by telegraph.OWN correspondent.] Gishorne, Tuesday. On Saturday night, Mr. Carlyon's homestead at Rimuhau, Waerengaokuri, consisting of eight rooms and offices, was destroyed by fire. Mr. Carlyon and a friend, who was staying with him, retired to bed about nine o'clock. Soon afterwards he heard a roaring noise, but thought it was the gale outside. Tho noise continued, and on investigation it was discovered that flames wore bursting through from the chimney. The fire quickly spread, and the building and contents were destroyed. Mrs. and Miss Carlyon were away in Napier at tho time. The building was insured for £400 with the Victoria Insurance Company, but the furniture was uninsured. Mr. Carlyon is a heavy loser.

Westi-ort, Tuesday.
A firo was discovered in Gollin'smusic and fancy goods depot, part of a large block of buildings, at 2.30 o'clock this morning. An explosion of fireworks in the stock aroused the neighbours. Tho stock was destroyed by fire and water, but tho building was saved. Tho insurance on the stock is £400. The firo may havo been caused by a spirit lamp accidentally left burning.
