BOARD OF EDUCATION.
NEW OFFICES SELECTED.
MR. PARR'S FAREWELL.
SUCCEEDED BY MR. OAKLAND.
The Auckland Board of Education met yesterday morning. There were present.: Messrs. C. J. Parr (chairman), E. C. Barriball, (!. J. Garland, G. 15. Wallace, W. (J. Murray, G. Edgecumbe, A. J. Fanner, A. Harris, and H. J. Greenslade.
The Board decided to take five years' lease, at an annual rental of £500, of offices in the building in Shortland-street. recently occupied by Messrs. Archibald Clark and Co.
The chairman explained that the proposal to erect offices in Wellesley-street had been abandoned, as the architect had reported that there was not sufficient land for the Board's needs without interfering with the existing buildings. The- proposed offices were handy and convenient, and they would be outride the region of annoyance caused bv the noise of traffic in tyueeustreet. Mr. Parr added that ultimately the Board would have to provide offices of its own, and it was regrettable that the Board had not assisted in the erection of an additional storey on the Technical College, in which it could have had a suite of rooms.
An illuminated address, signed by the members of the. Board, and by its principal officers, was presented to Mr. Parr, on his retirement from the position of chairman. The address was presented by Mr. Edgecumbe. On the motion of Mr. Grecnsladc, seconded by Mr. Edgccumbe, Mr. Garland was appointed to the position of chairman.
