A Bill, entitled the Thermal Springs Districts Bill, was brought down by Governor's . message early on Saturday morning. The , effect of this Bill is to repeal the Thermal 3 Springs Act, 1908, under which districts 3 containing thermal springs might be re- } served. In place of the. repealed Act other provision is made for dealing with such I land as follows:—Native land in the North . Island on which there are thermal or mine- . ral water can not be alienated without the i consent of the Governor. No alienation I confirmed by a Maori Land Board shall be ' invalid by any breach of the provisions of k, this section, but any person who wilfully 3 commits or, attempts to procure any breach ) of this section shall be guilty of an indictable offence, punishable if the defendant is a body corporate by a fine not exceeding £1000, and in any other case by a fine not exceeding £500 or by imprisonment not exceeding two years. The Governor may proclaim as a public road 66ft wide any road in any district which has been subject to the Thermal Springs Districts Act if it is in use as a public highway. All the land situated in the Horohoro . and Tarawera survey districts, containing } about 3200 acres and known as Te Puke-roa-Oraawhata Block (being native land, of * which most of the undivided interests have " been already acquired by the Crown) is des dared to be Crown land instead of native f land, subject, however, to all valid leases affecting the same at the commencement of * this Act to the extent of the undivided in- ' terest in the lands which have not been " already acquired by the Crown. His • Majesty shall hold the land in trust for the , owners of those interests and all revenues . derived by the Crown from leases shall until l those interests are purchased or otherwise acquired by the Crown be apportioned be--1 tween the Crown and the owners of those 3 interests. The undivided interests shall for all purposes be deemed to be equitable iii--3 terests in native land. Power is also given . to the Governor to lease the land.
