IN THE OIL COUNTRY
EXPERT COMING FROM ENGLAND. [BY telegraph.— association.] New Plymouth, Sunday. A cable has been received from Mr. J. D. Henry, a well-known petroleum expert representing two or three wealthy financial groups, stating that he will leave England on December 2 for New Ply. mouth. The head driller of the Standard Oil Company's bore at Carrington Road, reports that the well is now down 4180 ft, and that the gas is very strong at the bottom, sending cuttings 50 to 100 ft up th'e casing. He is drilling in good sandrock and regards the indications as very promising. CESSATION OF WORK. [by teleghath.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Gisbobne, Saturday. The dry spell of weather caused a cessation of boring operation® at the Waitangi well last week. The springs upon which the engine plant was depending for water have disappeared, and a well to obtain a fresh supply was sunk alongside the main pipe line to tap the spring struck at the 60ft level. Thus morning it was down to 37ft, but rain had set in in the meantime.
