The Duke of Connaught, inspected the white and native police at Salisbury yesterday. Messrs. Fisher and Fowlds were welcomed at Mafeking yesterday morning by the resident commissioner, and driven to points of interest. They left in the afternoon. AT JOHANNESBURG. WARM WELCOME GIVEN. (Received November 21, 12.50 a.m.) Capetown, November 20. Mr. Fisher and Mr. Fowlds were at Johannesburg welcomed by tho Mayor, chief maigstrate, representatives of public bodies, and a number of Australians and New Zealanders. Mr. Fowlds renewed many old friendships. . In the evening they were banquetted at the Carlton Club by the South African Labour party in conjunction with the Union Club, Caledonian Club, and local Australians and New Zealanders. - UNION'S FIRST BUDGET. CONTRIBUTION TO THE NAVY. Capetown, November 18. The South African Estimates total £13,802,315 for the 10 months ending March 31, an increase of £596,586 over the Budgets of the four colonies. The Imperial navy contribution is £86,600.
