Council correspondence was received from the Wellington Association objecting to a f; declaration from the council that certain matters agreed to at the Palmerston North *-> conference had become law. The Wellington Association's objection was based on a rule which provides that alterations to the rules must be made by a mail vote. Ihe ; council decided to submit several matters . / mentioned to the affiliated bodies for a mail ' Permission was granted to the Millerton Association to arrange a match between Mitchell and Rudd for the! heavy-weight . ■professional championship, and to the i Northern Association to arrange a match ? ' between Halley imd Tracy, for the welteri<},' ; weight championship. _ _ . ' WAIKATO TOURNAMENT. Mr. J. H: Trudgeon. received information last evening from the secretary of the TV aftts to Boxing Association that at a meeting held at Hamilton it was decided to hold the noil; carnival on December 7. The contests will be solely for amateurs, and be ok . six rounds each. Matches will be arrange® for- all classes, and it is probable that four Waikato men o! different classes, viz., Hogg, Young, Nordeii, and McClusfcie, will 1)© matched against Auckland boxers. Mr. Trudgeon has betes asked to make local arrangementis, and. Auckland amateurs desirous of competing at Hamilton, should communicate with him. A special match between the Auckland light-weights Ross, and O'Halloren is being arranged for this tournament. . . . ' Cool, collected, resourceful, faultless in defence, and magnificent in offence 1 , Jimmy ' Clabby, the American welter-weight (says ; the Sydney Morning "Herald), had littJa difficulty in disposing of Bob Bryant, who . was counted out in the seventh round, i. after taking delivery of a left , smash, fol- ; V lowed by a lightning right cross which . . landed square on the point. Clabbv claims -the welter-weight championship of the . world, and, judging by his showing last | ! sight, is a worthy holder. He is, without j *' doubt, the * cleverest boy. -seen in an A us- i ■_ -,tralxan ring since the days of Griffo. His j judgment of distance was a little at fault j times, but his wonderful cleverness! p; always got him oat of difficulties- A most \ prominent feature of the contest was the I • utmost good humour with which it iras j . V waged, neither man seeking to take the - slightest unfair advantage of the other.
