AUCKLAND HOSPITAL BOARD.

The final meeting of tho Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, as constituted under the old Act, took place yesterday afternoon. Those present were: Messrs. C. D. Grey, L. J. Bagnall, M. J. Coyle, W. Johns, E. H. Potter, F. Dyo, A. Sturges, J. G. Rutherford, P. M. Mackay, J. Jenkin, and G. Knight. Mr. Carl Klette forwarded the sum of £3 3s 7d as a donation to the Board's funds, explaining that it was tho balance of the funds of a proposed Croatian and Dalmatian Benevolent Society, which was never formed. The donation was received with thanks. A letter was received from tho. Waitemata County Council, suggesting that in outlying districts a sub-relieving officer be appointed to administer temporary relief in urgent cases. The matter was referred to the incoming Board. Mr. W. Johns submitted a report on the Board's sections at Pirongia, which was referred to tho Finance Committee. The Finance Committee reported that they had applied to the Government for a loan of £50,000. The Charitable Aid Committee reported that during the fortnight ended March 10 14 new cases had been dealt with, and 17 old cases were under notice. Tho secretary reported that the estimated financial position of the Board at the present time showed that the estimated assets and income at March 31 would bo £11,262, and an estimate of the total expenditure and liabilities up till 31st inst. was £10,861, leaving the Board in credit £401. Tho estimated receipts had been exceeded for the year under a number of heads. Tho estimated hospital receipts were £3000, and the actual receipts £4312. Old age pensions: Estimated receipts, £1200; amount actually received, £1936. Costley Home: Estimated receipts, £800; actual receipts, £977. Charitablo Aid: Estimated receipts, £200; actual receipts, £187. Endowments: Estimated receipts, £1073; . actual receipts, £2195; tho whole making a total of £3347 received over and above the estimated receipts. Added to that there was tho surplus of contributions and subsidy, which made a grand total of £4350, which practically paid for the building contracts the Board had entered into. The total value of buildings paid for out of the Board's income amounted to £4473. Thej chairman paid a compliment to the late chairman (Mr. G. Knight) in connection with the way the Board's finances had come out. He considered it reflected the greatest credit on Mr. Knight, and was a tributo to the way in which he had worked for the Board. Mr. Knight suitably acknowledged the compliment.. '■' A letter was received from Major McDonald, officer commanding tho New Zealand cadets, thanking the Board for the kindness extended to tho cadets under his charge when they arrived in camp on the occasion of the recent Kitchener camp.
