7 A number of ratepayers \of '■'.■ Queen-street wrote drawing the i attention of .'the' Council to what r - they iconsidered .the unnecessary and objectionable noise . made by the tram cars. The noise' was sometimes so great that.it (was * impossible :to carry- on a ; conversation and customer; and it consequently had' a decidedly injurious elect on "business. •
