Apropos of the cabled information that the Newcastle coal strikers have decided to return to work, it is interesting, to ..know what the miners' co-workers in New Zealand have done in the way of financial assistance during the progress of . the strike. : • The president of the New Zealand Miners' Federation:(Mr. 11. Semple) informed an Evening. Post reporter today that" the levies made by various mining unions would amount to about £1000, and . special . votes from funds 'to about 3D6OQ. The levy, which % amounts to five per cent, on each miner's gross earnings, is still in ;force, and will be continued for come time, in order to. help distressed families. , Apart from; the contributions of miners in New Zealand, outside unions have contributed about £200. and the collections made by Mr. : McWilliam, the Newcastle delegate, in : different parts of the country, . will . bring the Now, Zealand workers' total contribution to the Newcastle strike fund up to about £2000.
