AN EXCITING RUNAWAY.

TWO 'BUSES WRECKED.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.]

Hamilton*, Thursday. Great excitement was caused in Victoriastreet shortly after 9.30 this morning, by an accident in which a horse was killed, and two 'buses partially wrecked. One of Buchanan's 'buses, drawn by three horses, was standing unattended at the station, while the driver, J. Scott, was .attending to the mails. The horses took fright, and galloped out of the station grounds, along Ward-street, and into Vic-toria-street. The latter street is partly roped off in connection with retarring operations, and this drove the runaways on to the narrow portion on the west side. A two-horse 'bus, belonging to Dalgliesh and Mac Donald, driven by R. Welsh, was coming along this, and the runaways crashed into his vehicle, which with five horses, was upset on the asphalte roadway. Both 'buses were considerably damaged, and one of the horses in the runaway team had.a leg broken, and received a. fearful wound, from which blood flowed copiously. This horse died soon afterwards. Welsh had a most miraculous escape, as one of the poles of the other 'bus just missed his chest by inches, and pierced his 'bus from end to end.
