..•-•■ Wellington, Wednesday.- /' The president of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council (Mr. T. Long), speaking at the Labour Conference, made strong complaints against the Government as an employer of labour at Rotorua. He quoted the case of a man who was doing disagreeable work at 5s per day. Another had received '£2 19s a week before the Government < assumed control, and when the change took place his pay was reduced to 7s 6d per day, and he had.no holidays. Men on street works for the Government at Rotorua only got 7s a day, 'minus broken time, , whereas : the Auckland City Council did not pay less than 8s a day for road work.
