HOSPITAL BOARD.

The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday afternoon, those present being the chairman (Mr. G. Knight), Messrs. Bagnail,. Johns, Coyle, Grey, Jenkin, Mackay, Dye, and Rutherford. • Personnel of Committees: Mr. Johns moved the resolution which has been be-fore:-the last two meetings, suggesting (1) That ,* the personnel .of the various committees bo partially changed every.three or. six months; (2) that each committee be composed, as : far as practicable, of equal numbers of members representing the city/suburban, and country sections of ,tho district and (3) that each committee annually appoint one of its members as chairman, the chairman of the Board to be a member of each committee, ex officio. Tho object of the motion, Mr. Johns stated, was to secure a more equitable division of work, a better acquaintance on. tho part of members with tho various institutions, and to make the chairman more of an inspector of committees than a fixed member. Clause* one and three wore negatived by fivo votes to four, but the voting was reversed in respect to clause 2, owin%' to Mr. Jenkins supporting the motion.

Hospital Secretary: The Chairman moved, " That Mr. Fen ton be transferred from the Board office to tho hospital, in the capacity of and with the official designation of secretary to the hospital. The said secretary, when appointed, to have solo control under the direction of tho Board of everything appertaining to tho commercial sido of the hospital. All matters affecting the institution in any way to bo first submitted through this channel to the Board." Mr. Johns seconded tho motion, which was heartily supported by several of the members. Mr. Bagnall opposed tho motion on the ground that the by-laws provided that the house steward was tho head of the institution. - Thero could not bo two heads, and until the by-laws were altered the secretary would havo very little to do. He would have , preferred to follow tho recommendations of the Inspector-General in regard to' reorganisation. Tho motion was carried, Mr. Bagnall remarking that while he did not vote against, he would, not vote for the motion,/

Cookery Classes: The-director of technical education (Mr. Geo. George), wrote stating that the courses of instruction in cookery for nurses at the Technical College could not be continued for loss than £24 per course. Two course* of 18 lessons each had already been given for £18 per course. Tho letter was.referred to the Hospital Committee. The director advised that the," following nurses had passed the cookery examinations:—Gertrude Bedford, Marion B. Bell, Lillian C. Brewer, Margaret Brown, Elizabeth Cairns, Clara Campbell, Alice M. Clark, Blanche G. Davies, Emma C. Gill, Eileen G. Ha nan, Edith E. Harvey, Ada L. Jackson, Eve C. Jordan, Margaret A. McGee, Ethel Simons, Kate Stephenson, Edith M. Tebbutt. Jessie Walker, Tsobel Whyte, Mario G. Williams, Kate A. Wootten, Carrie Young. Tenders: The following tenders were received the supply of drugs for tho Hospital, Nurses Home, and Costley Homo: —Sharland and Co., Limited, £906 17s 9d, for one year (2£ per cent, discount for a three years' contract); Kompthorno, ProsHer, and Co., £930 9s 3d for ono year (2£ per cent, discount for three years). The tenders were referred to the Finance Committee. The tender of.Ambury, English, and Co., at 9d per gallon for milk and lOd per pint for cream, was accepted. Hospital Additions: The Finance Committee reported that the tender of Mr.. John Davis, at £2949 ss, had been accepted from among 15 tenders, for tho modernisation of the basement of tho main hospital building and addition to mortuary block. Tho tender of G. B. Braithwaito, £106, had been accepted for additions to Board room, and Mr. George Curd was appointed clerk of works.

Dental Hospital: It was decided, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee, that tho dental hospital bo opened for the treatment of patients from Monday, September 6. 1

Honorary Staff: "It was decided to invite applications for the position of hon. anaesthetist, hon. consulting physician, and hon. consulting surgeon.
