A SEASIDE RESIDENCE.
NEW TAKAPUNA HOTEL.
Since tho Lako Hotel, Takapuna, was destroyed by fire some months ago arrangements have been mad© to establish the hotel nearer the Lake 'Beach. Recently Mr- Paul Hansen's property, " Mon Desir," was purchased, and tenders were called for additions to tho fine residence, in order that a hotel befitting the charming locality might bo erected. The building provides a fine ladies' drawingroom, ample smokercom, and loungo accommodation, and one of the features of tho , hall is tho entrance lounge, which will be provided with space for a fernery. The rambling verandah gives an extensive view of tho Rangitoto Channel. The additions to be mado to tho building will convert the one-storey residence into a two-storev hotel, provision being mado for 20 additional bedrooms. Tho roof over the staircase will bo flat, and covered with lead, the intention being to make a roof garden, 4-Offc by 10ft. The grounds, almost four acres, are already .laid out in lawns and promenades. A kiosk, containing tho bar, and good accommodation for afternoon tea, is to bo constructed 300 ft, away from the main living .apartments. A number of up-to-date bathing machines are being constructed. , , The licensco of the now hotel is Mr. Audus Raynes. Tho plans for the additions to the building and the construction of the kiosk were prepared by Messrs. Wade and Wade, of (Auckland, and yesterday they accepted separate tenders for the works, the total to be expended aggregating about £3000. Maud, £2135; W- Massey, £2162; O. E. Farrow, £2200; J. Ellingham, £2225 G. Baildon, £2238: W. Ball, £2250; 0. Braithwaite, £2255; F. «T. Matthews, £2296 ; W. Firth, £2347; Craig Brothers, £2393; R. McCallum, £2900. . The tenders for tho kiosk wero as follows:—W. Massey (accepted), £965 17s; Oliphant and Gittos, £1067; A. Langsford, £1070; C. H. and C. Frankham, £1153; Jones and Stephenson, £1197; Craig Brothers, £1275; Wm. Maud, £1280; W. Firth, £1297; A. Pollard amd Son, £1365; F. J. Matthews, £1387; R. McCallurn, £1400; W Ball, £1420; 0. E.
