EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.

AUCKLAND BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held yesterday at the Training College. Mr. C. R. Munro presided, and there were about 60 members present. Tho annual report, expressed approval of the Public Service- Classification and Superannuation Amendment Act, and the new Education Act. It was noted that heavy demands had been made upon tho legal defence fund, the institute having defended several assault cases. Tho promotion scheme advocated by Mr. E. C. Purdio had won unanimous approval. With regard to the certificate of proficiency examination, steps had been taken, as a result of which it was believed that the. conditions of the. next examination would be quite different to those at the last. Gratification was expressed at the results of the Education Conference held in Auckland this week. The membership of the Auckland branch showed a gratifying increase, but still only 60 per cent of the teachers in the district, were member,'. The balancesheet showed a credit balance of £61 15s 7d. The report, and balance-sheet, wore adopted. It was resolved to raise the honorarium of the secretary to £25, and that of the treasurer to £15. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. .N. R. McKenzie, Whangarei school; vice-presidents, Messrs. IT. G. Cousins, M.A., C. R. Munro; secretary, Mr. F. Warren, 8.A.; treasurer, Mr H. A. Darrow, Parnell school; Management Committee, Messrs. F. H. Brown, Newton East; R. Campbell, Mount Alberti D. W. Dunlop, Napier-street; G. Lippiatt, M.A.. Pokeno; J. D. McNaughton, Drury; G-. W. Murray, Normal school; Miss M. S. Newman, Normal school; Mr. Wm. H. Newton, Waiokaraka school, Thames; Mr. F. J. Ohlson, Newmarket; Miss H. J. Priestley, Beresford-street.
