;' * COALING OPERATIONS. H.M.S. Powerful, flagship of the Aus-;-v'tralasian squadron, now visiting Auckland, was engaged in coaling operations yesterday, commencing at four a.m. and , ceasing at 3.30 p.m., after taking aboard from the s.s. Koromiko no less than 1500 tons; of bunker coal. On an average the Warship shipped 142.86 tons per hour, her Smartest feat being 191 tons for one hour. ■ She also shipped 181 tons for three hours in succession. " '•'The coaling steamer subsequently went "alongside the Challenger to unload 500 p tons of coal. - Yesterday morning H.M.S. Pegasus left ;. for the Gulf for heavy gun firing, and | Will return to port in a day or two.
