UNDERPAID DRESSMAKERS.
[BX TELEGRAPH.--PE.ESS ASSOCIATION] Christchttrch, Monday. At a general meeting of the Canterbury Federation of Unions, it was decided that an effort should be made to organise the dressmakers of Christchurch into a union. It was stated that a very large body of badly workers were engaged in the dressmaking branch of the clothing trade. The wages received by them were far below those of women and girls employed in other industries where unions existed, and that in spite of the fact that the work called for far greater skill and care on the part of the operators. The committee Was instructed to inquire into the matter, and report to the next meeting. *
