The Auckland Railways League has organised the following deputation to the Minister for Public Works, in reference to the more -rapid extension of the Main Trunk line north of Auckland, and the AucklandGisborne railway: Representing the league, Messrs. Gerald Peacocke (chairman), Andrew Bell, Major G. W. S. Patterson; Kaiwaka, Fred. Clarke; Maungaturoto, Tboe. Coates; Waihi, Messrs. Newth and Foster ; Gisborne, the Hon. Captain Tucker; Whangarei, Mr. J. D. McKenzie; Dargaville, Mr. E. Harding: Bay of Plenty, Mi J. Carroll: Tauranga, Mr. J. M. Holmes (at present in Wellington). The deputation will leave Auckland, via the Manuka on Friday. . The Postmaster-General informed a deputation in Melbourne that his officers estimated the revenue during the current financial year a.i £3.700,000, all of which would be spent. Telephone and other facilities were requested by the deputation, and Mr Mangel said to grant them would cost £268,000. The Department was unable to meet the demand for t-elonlioaes.
