Mr. Lloyd-George (Chancellor of the Exchequer) was cordially welcomed and entertained at lunch at Hamburg to-day. Referring to the settlement of the loadline question in 1907, Mr. LloydGeorge asked, ; ' Why not settle the loadline of the nations so that the ships of State may not be sunk by the burdens of armaments?" Britain and Germany were dependent on each other, and they could help each other. He proposed the toast, " Enduring Friendship between Britain and Germany.'' "May God watch over and prosper both," he said.
