VESSELS ADRIFT.

THE AEON AND HAWEA.

. A FRUITLESS SEARCH. Increasing anxiety is being felt regarding the safety of the two overdue steamers, Aeon and Hawea, no news of either vessel having been received yet at the respective shipping offices. It was thought that (he "Union Steam Ship Company's Tofua, which arrived at Suva, from Sydney yesterday, would bring some news of the Aeon, but no mention was made of the missing vessel in a cablegram received from that port last night. The Tofua, which is bound for Auckland, will call at Samoa and Tonga en route, and is due at this port on September 10. Her arrival here will be awaited with interest, as a sharp 'ook-out for the Aeon will be kept. The s.s. Lord Sefton, one of the Australian Mail Line, is scheduled to arrive from San Francisco and Apia on Monday next, but it is anticipated that she will not put in an appearance until two or three days later. Those on board the vessel will be able to announce if the Aeon has reached Apia. The Union Company's steamer Navua is due from the Eastern Pacific today, and it is possible that she may bring some information regarding the missing steamer. The steamer Ccvic, which is expected from Sydney to-day, may ' have some tidings of the- Hawea, now adrift in the Pacific with a broken tail shaft. The Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Mokoia and the A. and A. liner Jeanara left Sydney for Auckland yesterday, and those on board will keep a sharp look-out for the Hawea on the voyage to Auckland. The Union Company's steamer Floi«a, which arrived at Newcastle this week, after an unsuccessful quest, left the New South Wales port for Napier yesterday to resume the search.
