F. Metcalfe, who has been chosen to represent New Zealand at the Australasian boxing championship meeting, left for the South yesterday by the Rotoiti. MURPHY DEFEATS GAULT. [BY telegraph. OWN correspondent.] Hastings, Wednesday. The Hawke's Bay Amateur Boxing Association arranged a contest between Alf. Gault, of Auckland (who recently defeated, (.osimer in three rounds at, Wellington), and Bert, Murphy (instructor to the Hawke's Bay Amateur Boxing Assocition, champion light-,, weight of Auckland). Fifteen rounds woro to be fought for a purse of £60. In the twelfth round Murphy Was declared the winner.
