HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
i The fortnightly meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs. G. Knight (chairman), L. J. Bagnall, M. J. Coyle, A. Bruce, J. G. Rutherford, H. Schofield, A. JJturges, P. M. Mackay, and C. Grey. New Bedsteads: Tho Surgical Supply Company notified the arrival of the balance of the bedsteads ordered for tho hospital (60). The total cost was £225 6s 9d. Oostley Home Charges: The clerk of the Gtamatea County Council telegraphed, asking that accommodation should be provided for a case for the Costley Home, a weekly guarantee of 10s being offered."' The secretary reported that he had written stating that, on account of the cost of maintenance having increased considerably, the Board was compelled to make a charge of 15s per week for each person. Mr. Bagnall remarked that it would be better to have the rooms in-use at 10s than empty. The matter was referred to the committee. Finance Committee: Tho Finance Committee recommended the acceptance of Smith and Caugliey's tender for drapery. The committee was of .pinion that the Board should not pay nurses' travelling expenses. The total accounts amounted to £5103 6s 9d. Extras: Some discussion arose as to the " extras" for the Costley ward extension. -Mr. Ooyle condemned .'.< extras" as a bad habit, and said the architect should not allow them to creep in. If he left certain things out and put thorn in later as " extras it was wrong. In a recent waterworks contract, carried out by the City Council, involving some £60,000 or £80,000, the extras only cost some £60. " Charitable Aid: The committee reported that 31 cases had been considered during the last fortnight, and seven had been admitted to the Costley Home. Emergency Nurses: Mr. Bagnall. referred to the groat cost incurred through the engagement of emergoney nurses. The secretary reported that four were at present engaged, and the matter was referred to the Hospital Committee. A New Departure: It was resolved to obtain an opinion as to the best method to adopt in installing electric light and heating at the Costley Home. At the request of Mr. Mackay, the chairman agreed to obtain a report on electrical lighting and heating at the hospital. - /
