• OTAHUHU. [from our own correspondent.] At the monthly meeting of the Otahuhnr Road Board Mr. J. Todd presided. Messrs. Sturges, Brady, and Lippiatt were also ins attendance. Several requests for scoria were held over till the more urgent worfe on the roads had been carried out. ' A letter was received from the Newmarket Borough Council, Epsom, Mount Roskill, and other road boards, re taking concerted action in reference to wheel tax and width oft tires. Mr. J. Brady was elected to represent the local Board at the conference to b« held upon the subject. Mr. Sturges re- J ported having interviewed Mr. Waite (traf« fie manager), who had promised a nightly train service during Fleet Week, and also aj Sunday train. Mr. Sturges further reported having interviewed the director of technical education respecting the Otahuhu Technical School, and, had been informed that.the plans had been drawn up on a modified scale from those originally proposed, and ■-."■■'; that the Cabinet would be asked for a grant sufficient to put the scheme into operation. • A wedding of much local interest took place on Wednesday, when Miss May Brown, daughter of Mr. Thos. Brown, Station Road, and Mr. J. Fisher, son of Mr. J. Fisher, Pukerimu, Waikato, were united in matrimony in Holy Trinity Church. Canon . Gould, assisted by the Rev. H. Mason, officiated. The bride was attended by her sister (Miss K. Brown) and Miss C. Fisher as bridesmaids, while the bridegroom, had Mi. C. Brown and Mi. W. Fisher as best man and groomsman. The church was decorated by the friends of the bride, and the service was choral. TE AROHA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The Domain staff, under Mr. Dalton, head gardener,, are engaged in considerable improvements to the grounds. The sides 06 the little gully at the south-east end, below No. 2 ba.th, have been laid out .in tasteful rockeries, flower beds, grass verges, and grass slopes. Tree ferns and other native plants appear in the scheme. -"_ H The bed' of the gully, with the aid of rock and concrete work, has been formed into a series of pools and cascades. In readiness for the approaching tourist season a tea kiosk is being built in the Domain. The site chosen is the high bank overlooking the bowling green. ' At the monthly meeting of the Borough Council Mr. H. Poland, M.P., was appointed to represent To Aroha at the biennial conference of delegates, to the Municipal Association of New Zealand, to be held in Wellington on August 3.' The Department of Public Health wrote making several suggestions for improvements in sanitary matters. As the funds of the borough were quite inadequate, it was decided to apply to the Government, for a £ for. £ subsidy, to meet the cost of the works suggested. The offer of Mr. J. Rowe to permit a new fire brigade shed to be erected on his property in Kenrick-street, subject to conditions as to size and removal, was accepted with thanks. The clerk was instructed to take legal proceedings against, certain persons found appropriating more electrical power than they paid for. . WAIHI. {BY TELEGRAPH. OWN correspondent.] Waihi, Monday. At the next meeting of the Waihi Borough Council .Mr. A. H. Clark will move, "That any' resolution on the books "to the contrary -be rescinded, and that in future when practicable all borough works be carried out on . contract, tenders for all contracts to be advertised in the local paper." Mr. J. Irvine will, move, "That the resolution oh the . books to the effect that a public swimming ; bath be constructed within the recreation grounds at .an estimated cost of £650 bo , rescinded, and that' the town clerk be * authorised to write to the secretary of the Waihi Schools Committee with the object of arranging a conference between the 'Works Committee and the Schools Committee with a view of visiting the Central and High School • reserve for the purpose of consider- y ing the advisableness of converting a minia- '.. ture bay existing there with a good stream of clear water flowing through it into a swimming ■ bath for the • school children. Also, that the Works Committee be asked in consider ■ the advisableness or erecting dress- ■ ing sheds for bathers at the following points:—(l) Central and High Schools reserve; |2) Worth's Paddock; (3) .Queen Creek, fit a point in line with the East school and a considerable distance south of 'the rifle range.'' Taylor in the chair, it was resolved Jo hold the annual race meeting on Wednesday, September 2, !, and to increase the. stakes by £20. It was j also resolved to hold a point-to-point steepei chase on the last day of the hunting season. [The event will consist of two classes—light- . j weights and heavy-weights— and trophies of the value of £5 will be given. [ The-annual meeting of shareholders of the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., was held on Saturday, Mr. James Taylor presiding. The chairman presented a report, which referred in terms' satisfaction ' to the sound position of the company and the excellent prospects for the future. The very dry weather experienced- during the ■ months of . January to March was responsible for a shrinkage in the output of butter " to the extent of 41 tons, but given a favourable seaison during the coming year it was , expected to- exceed the best previous output. ' It was suggested that on the completion of the new factory at Hautapu an opening function should be held. In regard to financing the directors considered that the beet , plan would be to raise the money from the Bank of New Zealand by way of floating overdraft, the amount so borrowed to be V repaid during a period of 20 years. The ? report and balance-sheet (published previously) were read and; adopted. Mr. P. A. E. Forbes was re-elected auditor. The election of four directors resulted in the re-election of Messrs. Jas. Taylor, E. Allen, and J. M. Hall; Mr. R. Swayne taking office for the first time. - The Rev. Alex. Heron, the newly-appoint-ed curate of St. Andrew's Church, will arrive ' here this week.
