PREPARATIONS WELL. ADVANCED. The preparations for the ';-*': local industries" show, which is to be opened on August 5, and "continued. during Fleet Week, are well advanced, and rapid progress is being made in the erection of the main building and annexe; on.the Town Hall site. . A well-attended meeting of .. the. Management Committee was held in the office of the secretary, Mercantile Chambers, yesterday. .'."' . A reply was received from His Excellency the Governor, who had been asked to open the. exhibition, stating that his engagements would not permit of him reaching Auckland before August 8, and it was resolved to ask the Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myers) to perform the opening ceremony, which is to' take place at three p.m. ;., . , -■, It was decided to proceed at once with the erection of a .refreshment room, and the question of catering will be dealt with by the Joint Committee, which meets today. The matter of providing accommodation for entertainments was referred to the same committee. . <~.■' Tenders were received for the supply of band music, but the matter was deferred pending inquiries by the secretary whether provision, could be made for a string band. It was resolved to forward invitations to be present at the exhibition to the officers and men of the fleet dftring their visit. . , Prizes amounting to £3 3s, open to children under 15, will be offered for the best prize essay on the display i-i the shop windows, and the collection. The meeting decided to insure the asssoei at ion's interest in the building in course of erection, and also to apply to the Police Department for the services of one or more constables • v The charges for admission were fixed at Is for adults and 6s for children.
