The Henry Hudson memorial bridge, which the Bridge Department of New- York City has approved of, is to be built of reinforced concrete, and its proportions are to be so great that* theio is no existing masonry structure with which itcan be compared, its concrete arch being of unprecedented span, weight, and carrying rapacity. The longest arch is the Upper Niagara eteel bridge, which measures 840 ft, centre it centre of end hinges; and the largest in contemplation is the 1000 ft, fourtrack, steel railway arch, designed to carry the connecting railway across the East River at, New York. When we come to masonry or concrete bridges, however, there is an immediate drop in dimensions. The largest concrete arch at present completed is the Grunwald bridge, of 230 ft span, at Munich. .
