LACROSSE.
There will no play at Victoria Park today, but. instead a practice game will be played on the Domain Cricket Ground this afternoon. All old and new players are requested to be at the Domain pavilion by three p.m. The annual general meeting of tho New Zealand Lacrosse Association was held on Monday night last, Mr. W. J. Nolan occupying the chair. A good deal of routine business was transacted, including the. election of officers and 12 new members. ' Tho following gentlemen were_ elected to the various offices;— Patron, His Excellency the Governor, Lord Plunket; president, Mr. A. M. -Myers; vice-presidents. Dr. W. Drummonu Fcrgusson, Messrs.' Thos. Peacock, Alfred Kidd, M.P., E. C. Bloomfield, W. D. .McLean, R. Noton, and E. W. Millar; lion, secretary, Mr. Lestock Stewart (pro tem.); lion, treasurer, Mr. W. J. Nolan (pro tem.); committee of management, Messrs. H. C. McCoy!, W. H. Graham, and F. Brown; hon. auditors, Messrs. F. Carpenter and Josenh Millar. Amongst other business the interprovincial contest came up for discussion. _ The position is that the Wellington Association has suggested that the local representatives go South either in June or July, and the; Southerners propose returning that visit during the sojourn of the American fleet in our waters. Further mention was made of the probability of Wellington and Auckland putting a combined team in the field against " Uncle Sam." ,
Judging by' the • enthusiasm manifested at present, there is every indication that the forthcoming season is to be a very successful one. . . One difficulty which the local association has to face is a shortage of crosses. There are no new /ones procurable in town, and, unless some effort is made by the committee to purchase those in the possession of retired players, tho trouble in "arming the beginners is likely to be a serious one. The members propose practising this afternoon. when an opportunity will be afforded each beginner to get on friendly terms with his "stick." The question of a ground is a momentous one, but the association hope, to have a share of Victoria Park. Mr. Stewart, secretary, will apprise each member of the City Council's decision on tho matter. . ■ i : ' i ■
