' A VIOLENT YOUNG MAN. At the Police Court yesterday, before . Messrs. F. G. Clayton and A. Clements, J.P.'s, a young man named Allele Cameron was charged with drunkenness, using - obscene language, and resisting the police. Accused pleaded guilty ,to all three charges. .. , On the charges of using obsceue language and resisting the police he was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment in each case, the charge of drunkenness being dismissed. • DEMORALISED.. Sergeant Hendry stated that until lately accused had been an industrious person, but prosperity or; town had demoralised him. He had come to town about six'weeks ago with a considerable amount of money. Having spent this he started hanging round hotel doors asking all and sundry for money to buy liquor. The Bench decided to convict accused and order him to come up for sentence when called upon, on condition that he went straight back to the ade and started work again. > $ . MISSED THE FOOTBALL. Two young lads, James Johnston and Beit Scott, were ordered to pay for a window broken by them, as the result of the failure of one to catch a f football with which they were having passes. Johnston was also ordered to pay the costs of the Court for allowing his horse to be at large. MISCELLANEOUS. For riding a bicycle along Custom-street after sunset without a light, Chas. Dunk was fined 10s and costs 7s. - For drunkenness three first offenders were fined 5s and costs. For being found on the licensed premises of the Prince Arthur Hotel, Henry John Atkins was fined £1, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Mary Ann Windsor, charged with drunkenness-, and procuring lienor while prohibited, was convicted, and sent to the Salvation Army Home until the officers of that institution should think fit to let her go. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Before Mr. Kettle, S.M., Walter Hampton, a short man, 63 years of age, was charged with attempting to commit suicide. Accused, who is an engineer by trade, stilted that he had taken, a- bottle of, chlorodyne. but could now see the folk' of it.. ; ' " His Worship said he would take" accused's word for it, and would convict and discharge him, upon his promise to remain at the Army Home until such time as the authorities thought he was fit to return to his,lodgings. , -: .
