MINISTERS' MOVEMENTS.
SIR JOSEPH WARD ON THE WEST COAST. [BY telegraph.— ASSOCIATION.] Hokitika, Friday. Sir Joseph and Lady Ward arrived here ! yesterday afternoon, and immediately after arrival the Prime Minister laid the founda-tion-stone of the new public buildings, making a lengthy speech, in which he .referred to the satisfactory progress of the district, as proved by the official figures. In the evening Sir Joseph received a number of deputations, and was subsequently entertained by the local bodies. After visiting the hospital 1 , to-day the party proceeded to Ross, via, Kanieri and Rimu, where deputations from the miners were received. The Ministerial party then left for Ross. They will return to-morrow and proceed direct to Reef ton. MB. FOWLDS AT HASTINGS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] | Hastings, Friday. The Hon. G. Fowlds (Minister for Education) arrived by the noon train to open the new High School. . He inspected the Te. Aute Native College, delivering an address to the scholars, and gave a 'political address at night. The Mayor presided, and at the conclusion of the address the meeting passed a vote of thinks to the Minister, and continued confidence in the Government.; . MR, WAX'S TOUR. [by TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Thames, Friday. The Hon. Jas. McGowan left by train this morning for Waiotapu, Rotorua. He proposes to pay a visit to Waiotapu prison, and to inquire into the working of the institution.
