ONEHUNG A DROWNING CASE.
AN OLD MAN'S DEATH. While walking along the cattle-race, at the Eastern end of the Onehunga Wharf, .shortly before 10 o'clock yesterday morning, a lad named Bowgen discovered the body of a man floating in shallow water. He at once called attention to the . fact; and Messrs. G. Snowdon and C. McCloskey recovered the body from the. water. The police were communicated with,, and Dr. Tresidder was summoned,. The latter, however, could only pronounce life extinct. The man had apparently been in the water about 10 or 12 hours. Deceased was immediately recognised as being; Mr. Edward Langton, a resident of Albert-street, Onehunga. It is not known how he got into the water, but his face was bruised, and .there was a bad cut across one of the eyes. The body was removed to the Hotel, where an inquest will be held this morning, before Mr. A. R. Harris, J.P., district Coroner. Mr. Langton, who was widely respected, was 78 years of age. He leaves one son and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
