At the first meeting of the newly-elected/ committee of the Oxford branch of the i Farmers' Union the following remits were 1 unanimously adopted for presentation to i the Provincial Conference: —" That steps 1 should be taken by the New Zealand i Farmers' Unions throughout the Dominion, i at the next election for Parliament, to sup- i port such candidates only who pledge them- 1 selves to particularly attend to the in- i terests.of the farming community, indepen- > dent of party, ; the time has now arrived 1 when the, farmers of New Zealand must take i a firm stand in politics if they wish to safe- i guard their industry'." - ' " That as strikes are practically impossible 011 farms, the.farming industry should be exempt from the Arbitration Act." "That it. be recommended to the colonial council to make original demands on the Government rather than oppose or obstruct measures that have betome law." " That the colonial council recommend to the Government that steps be taken to remedy the many complaints made regarding the defective grading ot numerous small seeds." '• •
