A WKLL-A;rn-;.vj)i;o and .. enjoyable conceit was given in the Academy of Music last evening, in aid of the fund for procuring new uniforms for the members of the Waihi Federal Brass Band. A capital programme ' consisting of numbers by the baud and items by £?cal vocalists,- was submitted, and a dance followed in the Miners' Union Hall. The dance music was supplied by Mr. Christian and party, and Mr. W. Henderson proved an efficient • M.G. A word of praise is due to the secretary I Mr. T. Burton) for.the complete arrangements throughout. At a meeting of the Finance Committee of the Waihi Borough Council last evening, accounts totalling £1574 15s, including the recent election expenses, were passed for payment. The receipts amounted to £1426 17s Id. The amount of gold duty outstanding was reported as £1989 6s. In consequence of the election of Mr. J. Newth; a member of the Borough Council, as Mayor of Waihi, an extraordinary vacancy has been caused in. the Council, and an. election to fill the vacancy will lake place 'on. the 27th instOn Saturday, at the local rifle range. the No. 5 Ohinemuri Rifles and Waihi Rifles will lire the final competitions for the Waihi Gold Mining Company's gold medals. The ranges will be 500 yds and 700 yds, 10 shots at each distance;" ;•
